The Project Management Committee has approved the feasibility study for a new high-speed railway linking Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. This ambitious project aims to transport passengers and goods between the two countries, and preparations are now underway to kick off the “initial design” phase. International companies are invited to participate, setting the stage for a transformative infrastructure development.
The railway, slated to commence in 2026, will span approximately 500 kilometres, connecting Shaddadiyah in Kuwait to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. The high-speed service is expected to accommodate up to 3,300 passengers daily with six round trips, covering the distance in just one hour and 40 minutes. Ticket prices are anticipated to be competitive, providing an affordable alternative to air and car travel.
Ongoing meetings and site inspections between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia are focused on addressing potential challenges and ensuring a smooth project rollout. The railway aims to enhance sustainable transport links, economic integration, and trade between the two nations while strengthening historical ties.
The Council of Ministers has charged the Ministry of Works and other relevant bodies with expediting the project and delivering regular progress updates. This initiative is part of broader Kuwaiti-Saudi efforts to bolster economic cooperation and deepen bilateral relations.
