Dubai number plate DD 5 sells for record Dh35 million in charity auction

Dubai real estate tycoon BinGhatti wins bidding war for $9.5m car number plate.

The number plate DD5 was sold for a staggering Dh35 million at the ‘Most Noble Number’ charity auction held at the Armani Hotel Dubai in Burj Khalifa.

Starting at a base price of Dh15 million, the plate saw more than 20 people bidding on it until it was bagged by Muhammad BinGhatti, chairman of Binghatti Holding, with his bid panel number 7.  Additionally, BinGhatti secured number plate DD 15 for Dh9.2 million, bringing his total bids to Dh44.2 million — more than half of the auction’s total collection.
